About

NYC Nature News was created to link New Yorkers to the natural world in the 5 boroughs and beyond.

It may come as a surprise to some, but cities are not simply concrete, people, and buildings. New York, like many of its urban counterparts, has remarkable species diversity and offers residents and visitors wonderful nature appreciation opportunities.

But where does one start? What are the plants and animals to see? Where can one go? Who are the people involved in preserving these open spaces? What events are happening around town and who are the organizations that need volunteers? And if your interest is piqued, where can you find more information?

This site’s mission is to provide answers to all these questions.

  • Learn about the species — both animals and plants — that call NYC home.
  • Discover places where you can enjoy nature both in the city and beyond.
  • Get involved by attending an event or nature walk — better yet, help out by volunteering with an organization.
  • Find out more about all sorts of nature topics from our comprehensive reference lists.

Help us make this a useful site! We’d love to hear feedback and suggestions. Drop us a note at info@nycnaturenews.com.
